Juniper Lightboard Series – Intro to Juniper Routing – Part 2

Just released the second video in my “Introduction to Juniper Routing” Lightboard Series. In this video, I cover more details around the functions and role of the Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE), and describe the difference between transit traffic and exception traffic.

In my next video, I’ll cover how routes are added to the routing table, describe the role of route preference, and briefly discuss the active route selection process.

Hope you enjoy and please don’t forget to check out my YouTube channel and like and subscribe for future videos!

Juniper Lightboard Series – Intro to Juniper Routing – Part 1

Very excited to share with you my very first official lightboard video, and what better way to kick things off than to dive into one of my favorite topics — an Intro to Juniper Routing. In this first part, I cover the separation between the Control Plane and the Forwarding Plane, and introduce concepts such as the Routing Engine and the Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE).

In my next video, I’ll cover the PFE in more detail and discuss the difference between transit traffic and exception traffic, followed by more videos on topics such as static routing vs. dynamic routing protocols. I will also separately introduce several companion series videos which will cover topics such as Data Center Architectures, Multicast, Class of Service, as well as emerging trends such as HyperConverged Infrastructure (HCI), Docker containers, and Kubernetes.

Hope you enjoy and please don’t forget to check out my YouTube channel and like and subscribe for future videos!

Interview with Juniper Networks Ambassador Rob Jeffery

Had a chance to sit down with fellow Ambassador Rob Jeffery at the Juniper NXTWORK 2018 conference in Las Vegas. Rob is the Technical Director and CTO at Next Gen Security based out of the UK, with a heavy focus on bringing emerging network and security products into the marketplace.

We discussed his involvement in bringing automation and orchestration into his customer environments, as well as topics covered at NXTWORK such as AI, machine learning, Contrail, Northstar Controller and Self Driving Networks.

This is the second-to-last Ambassador interview I’ll be publishing before I switch over to my Lightboard series. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together!

Interview with Juniper Networks Ambassador Said van de Klundert

Had a chance to sit down with Netherlands-based Fellow Juniper Networks Ambassador Said van de Klundert (JNCIE-SP #2573 and JNCIE-DC #26) at the Juniper NXTWORK 2018 conference in Las Vegas. Said is an incredibly knowledgeable network engineer, content developer and blogger, with a wealth of practical experience in the Service Provider, Data Center and Cloud arenas.

We spent a good portion of our time discussing one of my favorite topics — the JNCIE-DC exam, building out a JNCIE-DC lab environment, and his contribution to iNET ZERO’s JNCIE-DC Lab Preparation Workbook. In addition, we discussed his current work at IBM SoftLayer and his emerging interest around DevOps and automation tools such as Python and SaltStack.

Although I am continuously challenged to pronounce NXTWORK correctly, I really enjoyed this interview and hope you do as well!

Interview with Juniper Networks Ambassador Dan Hearty

First of all, let me apologize for the long delay in getting this next Juniper Ambassador interview published. I had a death in the family in December and it consumed a good portion of my time these last two months, so I’ve had little time for social media activities.

Alas, I’m very excited about this next interview – I spent time with one of my favorite Juniper Ambassadors, Dan Hearty (JNCIE-DC #190) at the Juniper NXTWORK 2018 conference in Las Vegas. Dan is just an awesome guy all around, a brilliant technologist, and one of our most active Ambassadors.

We discussed his contribution to the 2018 Juniper Ambassador’s Cookbook, Contrail Enterprise Multicloud and his interest around VMware NSX integration with Juniper’s Data Center products, emerging trends in the Data Center space, specifically around network virtualization, overlays and abstration, and his life as an Ambassador.

Juniper Data Center Cohesion Wrap Up

Finally getting caught up with work since my time in Cali and although this post is a little late, I wanted to take a moment to capture my thoughts on Juniper Network’s Data Center Cohesion event which took place in Sunnyvale at Juniper’s Aspiration Dome last week. I had an awesome time and the sessions were full of a ton of useful information geared towards all things Data Center. Apparently this was the first time that Juniper opened the conference to outside partners — roughly 16 partners showed up, so to say that I was honored to be there is quite an understatement.
